If you are a Bollywood fan then you’re all set to get nostalgic watching this latest video on YouTube that is doing the rounds.

A new video by a cappella group Penn Masala’s brand new video ‘Evolution of Bollywood Music’ that is going viral on social networking websites is a treat to watch. Not only do the group of six boys take you down the memory lane with the melodies from the yesteryears till today. But they entertain you with their creativity as well.

The video sets the mood right and starts off with the legend Mohammad Rafi’s ‘Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki’ (Dulari, 1949) and moves on to Raj Kapoor- Nargis starrer Shree 420’s (1955) ‘Mera Joota Hai Japani‘. The group moves ahead with ‘Eena Meena Deeka’ (Aasha, 1957) and ‘Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh’ (Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai, 1960). What is interesting is that the singers’ wardrobe, lighting et al reeks of the golden era of films gone by.

The group then moves ahead with technicolour and printed shirts, they make the music from the ’60s enjoyable with peppy romantic numbers like ‘Aaja Aaja’ (Teesri Manzil, 1969) and Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore’s sensual number ‘Roop Tera Mastana‘ (Aradhana, 1969).

To get into the 70s mood, a few group members sport gamchas. They sing ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno Lo Main Aa Gaya’ and ‘Khaike Paan Banarasa Wala‘ (Don, 1978).

With ‘Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna’, ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai‘ and ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya‘, the 90s are more like a tribute to Shah Rukh Khan. Even as they sing Aamir Khan’s ‘Pehla Nasha‘ from ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander’, we can see Aamir-Shah Rukh ala sweaters casually sported on their shoulders.

Up next is ‘Tunak Tunak Tun‘ and you see the singers dressed up as Punjabi folk singers. In the end it is Ranbir Kapoor’s hit number ‘Batameez Dil’ from ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani‘ along with the signature moves comes to the fore.

The ‘Evolution of Bollywood Music’ is one entertaining video to look forward to.
